Facilities

Our newest building, the year-round Lodge comfortably houses up to 18 people. It is a completely self-contained building that is perfect for small groups. There are 6 bedrooms, handicapped-accessible bathrooms, a flexible meeting space, a kitchen, and a beautiful central stone fireplace. There is also a large open front porch.

A total of eight Cabins  are located at two separate locations on site, the Upper and Lower Camps. Each remote site has 4 cabins, composting toilet, pavilion, a storage building, and large fire circle. The cabins are furnished with bunk beds and can accommodate up to 44 people. The cabins do not have electricity and are most comfortable during the summertime.

Our Main Building  features indoor dining and meeting space large enough for 60 people. There is also a small library located in one corner of the dining hall equipped with wireless internet access. Our staff offices as well as kitchen and laundry facilities are located here as well. All deliveries are received at the Main Building loading dock.

The Dabney Miller Center is where many of our orientation, warm up, art and teambuilding activities take place, especially during those inevitable rainy days. The Center was built by and is dedicated to the former director of the Wilderness School, the precursor for the Outdoor Education Center of today.

Other facilities include several storage buildings and a Bath House complete with showers for those persons staying in the cabins at the remote sites. Pavilions at the campsites are perfectly suited for cookouts, and other adjunct activities for campsite residents and program participants.

We continually try to make our campus a green facility and are looking forward to the completion of our 80’ wind tower--equipped with a 1.5 kW turbine. This unit will assist us in the goal of removing our lodge building from the “grid” by generating electricity from the wind. In addition to the wind turbine, we will also be tying in 4 photovoltaic panels (donated by BP Solar) to the Lodge green energy system. Along with this initiative, our facility has several environmental demonstration sites including solar hot water heating and composting toilets. Not only do these sites serve as educational tools for our environmental education programs, they assist with meeting the needs of both staff and guests.

There are miles of trails throughout our campus perfect for hiking and biking. Not only do we have access to the Shenandoah River but the Appalachian Trail is a beautiful one hour hike from our facility. Please contact us to find out more information about accessing our property.
